Hello again

That basically sums up my life, after I get home from work. Today I opened at the restaurant and stayed an hour later to help out. Long day! After window shopping for a bit, I finally headed home and into my pajamas. I love baggy t-shirts and cozy pants, I practically live in them at home! As usual, life has been hectic and super busy (which I am working on...I need some zen in my life). Since I missed Music and Much Love Monday, here is a song that I have been loving recently. I hope you like it!

Music and Much Love Monday #6

Yesterday, my roomie and I went to the Vancouver Pride 2010 Parade. It was a great day! The first picture is of the car following a married couple in their wedding dresses as the crowed cheered them on (that picture didn't turn out so well). They looked so beautiful and happy that I started tearing up. The parade was an exciting, happy event full of many LGBT supportive organizations, schools and businesses, people of all sexual orientations and backgrounds, bright colours, and semi-nude people. All in all, it was unlike anything I have ever experienced before! I love Vancouver.

{this monday i am loving}
  1. That I am a healthy young woman with an amazing family, a wonderful group of friends, and a loving boyfriend, who is privileged enough to live, work, and study in Vancouver - Although I sometimes forget to stop and think about it, I am so thankful for everything I have.
  2. My boyfriend, as always. (P.s. I miss you).
  3. That I will see the whole family this weekend :)
  4. Vancouver Pride 2010!
  5. The real start to my summer - no more term papers or exams 'til September!
  6. Seeing a friend who had been in Paris for a month and hearing her stories.
  7. That I have work every day this week - yay for more shifts!
  8. That I am going to check out a Buddhist temple this week.
  9. The Pillars of the Earth miniseries:
  10. Stop motion art from the kind over matter flickr group.
  11. Quadron - an "electric soul" group from Denmark. Here is one of their songs:

Finally free

I am back! It took all of my willpower to not post things on the blog over the past week. I've been crazy busy with a term paper and my final exam and now I am finally done for the summer! After I got off work yesterday, I felt so free!

Today has been a quiet day at home. I had to reply to a bunch of emails from the past two weeks and I am now up to date. One of the things on my list of new things to try/do before September 2011 is to start reading Buddhist scriptures, and I started reading the Dhammapada yesterday! I'll write more on that later. Do any of you know much about Buddhism?

Tonight, one of my roomies and I are going to watch the fireworks from kits beach. I remember watching them the summer before grade 12, I can't believe that so much time has passed since then!

This is something that I found on kind over matter this week. It made me smile (especially at the ending) and I found the message to be pretty inspiring.

Have a nice weekend :)

Life in a day

Are any of you participating in this? Tomorrow, well today now, I am going home to be with my family - I might bring my camera with me to film the flight over and everyone at the lake house. I can't wait to see the finished documentary!

'80s love and roomie silliness

Despite something in my life that I have not yet been able to post about, today was a good day. Work was crazy busy but it kept my mind off of things. After dinner, my roomies and I had a great time being silly and watching '80s music videos and parody videos. We came across a couple of crazy videos for the some of the songs we love! Here are some of them:

I love this song but I'd never seen the video before. Anyone know what those things flying around are?

Who came up the ideas for these movies? Here is the "literal version," its pretty great!

I'm just including this one because I love Pat Benatar!

Now we are going through Heart, and into the '70s with Air Supply, and ABBA - this is making me so much happier :)

What are some of your favourite 70s/80s artists and songs?

Music and Much Love Monday #5

Well, here we are again...another Monday. It feels like this summer is flying by! This weekend was lovely. Although I worked all day on Saturday, I enjoyed it! The flow of customers at the restaurant was steady but not hectic and I had the chance to get to know some of my my co-workers better. Turns out, one of the girls was in two of the same classes as me! Anyway, here is my list of things I am loving this Monday. I am stressed out today and dreading this week because of my term paper due on Thursday, but I need to remind myself that there are great things about today!

{this monday i am loving)
  1. That I have a whole day to work on my essay.
  2. Having a movie night with a good friend and listening to her brother sing Bon Iver songs and play his guitar.
  3. Hanging out with my friends on the beach this weekend, day and night.
  4. My sketchbook/scrapbook - I have recently become so inspired to create! I've ordered some of my photos online and I am excited to start using them in my sketchbook.
  5. Getting paid last week...yay!
  6. My new shoes!
  7. The Sketchbook Project - I like the premise, but I don't think that I would be able to let my sketchbook go! After I finish my current one I might participate in it.
  8. This song:

Not only do I love the song, but I also love the music video. It was filmed so beautifully and, since the ballet dancer is male, it is completely unique and unlike anything I've seen before. Since we as a society are not used to seeing young men dance ballet or do things that society perceives as "feminine," the video may shock or confuse some people. I, for one, think that it is lovely. I was looking at the comments from viewers on Youtube, and it seems like there are a lot of close-minded or homophobic people out there. Maybe those who found the video beautiful and saw the deeper meaning within it chose not to write their comments alongside those who called it "disturbing." I think that we should break gender norms and blur the lines of masculine and feminine. Its only a social construct.  I hope that you enjoyed it, let me know what you think!

To my love,

The other night I read through quite a few of our messages from that incredibly long summer. Here are some things that we wrote to one another that made me smile....

"I am so glad you are smaller than me, that way I will always be the one holding you"
-You to me, July 23rd, 2009

"More than anywhere else in the world, I would rather be in your arms."
-Me to you , July 12th, 2009

Your arms are still my favourite place in the world.
I love you
xoxo

And now for something adorable

Meet the sloths from Amphibian Avenger on Vimeo.

I may have to go find myself a sloth now, they are the cutest little creatures I've ever seen! Their little faces make my heart melt; I think that I had a smile on my face the entire length of the film!

Read the story behind the film here.

Doodling, waiting, and starting again

Today was beautiful, not at all the blah day that the cloudy morning seemed to reveal. Tonight I had my 3 hour Greek and Roman Art and Archaeology course, most of which was spent discussing the four styles of wall painting at Pompeii. During this class there is a 15 minute break and, other than a quick bathroom stop, I'm left with not much to do. So, while waiting for class to begin again, I doodled.
I doodled during my break, while waiting for the bus, and while on the bus. (I'm not so enamored with the face, but I quite like the rest of it.) I used to doodle constantly but, probably due to the ridiculous amount of notes I take during class, did not do any at all this year. Obviously this isn't a grand piece of artwork but it made me happy!

Recently, I've started painting again as well. This is an (unfinished) abstract piece, one of many, from a little while ago:
Last week I brought my easel and painting supplies to my apartment and I am incredibly excited to start painting!

Beautiful things on a blah morning

Crisp shirts, classic skirts, and beautiful bookcases....
Standing out from the crowd with a certain something and a pop of colour......
Graceful people: Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn....

I hope that you have a beautiful day!

Music and Much Love Monday #4

{this monday i am loving}
  1. The wonderful weekend I had with my boyfriend :)
  2. Our loose plans for traveling through Europe next summer.
  3. That tonight I will see a couple of friends that I haven't seen in months and hear their amazing travel stories.
  4. That I have more shift hours this week - much needed for this starving student.
  5. Documentaries! I've already watched two on this website. (Yes, I'm a bit of a nerd.)
  6. My newly washed sheets.
  7. The sun!
  8. This song:

It reminds me of one of my friends who was in love with Keane and I consider it my theme song for grade 11, which now seems like ages ago. (The only other theme song I remember is my grade 9 one, "Everytime We Touch" by Cascada, because my friends and I made the silliest music video to it, complete with choreography and dancing on our desks. Oh grade 9.)
